Abstract: (Show)

Despite growing attention to the importance of grit and other character traits for student achievement, developing such qualities rarely figures in secondary school curricula. Based on extensive interviews and on-site visits, Belonging and Becoming tells the stones of five high schools with a national reputation for infusing rigorous academics with social and emotional learning and the demonstrable benefits that result for students.
